In European legislation the regulations of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) are applicable, with the "Agreement concerning the adoption of uniform conditions of approval and reciprocal recognition of approval for motor vehicle equipment and parts", Geneva, 1958; as the fundamental document. ECE regulations constitute internationally consolidated, complete documentation concerning technical requirements for motor vehicles, completion thereof and for the characteristics of equipment.
